Now I realise this is not anything to do with a slagleformer AVC but here goes anyway.
I have a Olson style Raven preamp/headphone amplifier with a Sowter 9335 TVC on the output driving Senn HD650 headphones. So I got the clip leads out and disconnected the primary and connected the secondary up direct like an AVC.
As usual, I haven't measured anything but the sound seems quite amazing. Am I missing something? Could there be a wrinkle in there that I'm being seduced by? Is it just a lucky coincidence? It's not designed to do this so I wonder what technical issues I could be having.
cheers,
Stephen

I think a frequency sweep of both connections would tell you a lot... I have measured a few TVC's in the intended hookup and as autoformers and the autoformer hookup (just using the secondary) has measured better.
