All the parts have to be put together at some point. Have fun!

Stacked supplies, grounding

Post by Daniel »

Hi everyone!
I built a nice noise generator with stacked supplies and was wondering if I need to disconnect all the metal canned smoothing and ultrapath caps from chassis ground to turn it into an amplifier? Measuring AC resistances I have various connections that shouldn't be there which don't appear measuring DC resistances, so I assume the noise is generated by AC leak from caps to chassis ground.
Thanks for any input.

I ruled out the AC coupling through the capacitor cans. The input stage oscillates at around 16 MHz and I just need to find out where it happens.
Gridstoppers did nothing, putting 10x the C into the last LC decoupling element did nothing.
When I connect input stage signal ground to PE I get that nice sound from the power supply you get before something goes up in smoke.
