Rebuilding tapedeck to connect head to RIAA phono stage

Hey everyone,
the fact that RIAA phono and IEC tape equalization share the 3180µs pole and IEC's 70µs time constant is close to RIAA 75µs has been spinning in my head for a week now.
Output levels of tape heads and MM cartridges are in the same area as well. Has anyone ever tried to bypass all the crap inside the tapedeck, put in a reverse 318µs and 159µs equalization and run the signal through a phono amp?
I could just do it but I am a bit lazy now and don't want to rebuild my tapedeck to see I have missed something crucial.
