Grounded-grid section in place of cathode bypass cap

Post by mwiebe »

Steve,
It looks like you are using a grounded grid connection for the second 8532 in your 841 A2 Amplifer as an AC ground for the voltage amp, pretty cool.

While you used an identical tube is this necessary? It would seem that any tube qualifying for grounded grid operation would serve as a viable AC ground. But I would like to hear what tube characteristics make for a good AC shunt.

Also why the different value plate loads for the voltage amp and the grounded grid stage? How did you calculate the plate load of your grounded grid stage? Interesting amp I may have to give it a try now that I see more of what you are up to in the design.
