Stephie's Tube Pages

Post by cda75 »

Hello Stephie,
Do you intend to re-instate and update your Tube Pages?
It would be great if you could!

Hi,
At some point I may indeed reinstate those pages and start updating things. At this instant, between work (I love my current job, although I spend massive amounts of time here), and my own personal projects (hey, I have a lifetime of things to catch up on, now that I'm healthy and happy), that might not happen for a while yet. I'm currently strongly considering a trip to Thailand in late fall, and/or will attend ETF later in the year if I can.

Hey Stephie,

If by chance a fragile lady like yourself needs a pair of hulking escorts to either Thailand or ETF, I believe both Jeffrey and I are available (you would need at least 2) free of charge, we only ask you cover travel expenses. Those roughians at the ETF can get a bit rowdy drinking all of that fancy wine and we need to keep you safe. If the flight costs are prohibitive, I do believe we can each fit in an oversized bag or better yet shipping crate for ease of transport.

O wow,
Escorted by gentlemen such as yourselves. I am honored. :D

Hmmm. Public forum and all. Well, I AM a lot more open than I used to be.....(and I won't even use the "blushing" emoticon)

You folks know why I'm planning to go to Thailand, right? Let's call it "corrective surgery". Dates still up in the air, but I expect Late October/Early November. At this instant, I'm planning on going alone, although, I'd *rather* be accompanied. Seriously. The overall stay is about 3 weeks! (I'll mostly be in hotel, but "guests" can wander through Bangkok collecting various, er, "souvenirs".)

If I feel at all recouperated in time for ETF (Thanksgiving Weekend) I am planning on ETF, since I promised the guys I'd dance with them. I'd be more than happy to likewise have accompanyment. Hxll, I'll even share a room, if you don't mind sharing a room with an old broad. (or is it)

Bluff called. :o :o :o

Either or both of you folks up 2 it?

Hugs,

Since the theme for ETF this year is horns from 600hz and above JJ may be coaxed. For me I must live through youz gize.

On another note, I'd much rather share a bed with stephie than johnny. (He farts too much)

ooohhhhh. That could be interesting.

Besides, you folks know I'm still going through puberty, so I can't guarantee that horniness (especially 600Hz and above) might not somehow be involved.

'Tis I again. Well, indeed I have started in motion the stuff for my Thailand trip. I expect it to be for 3 weeks somewhere in the October timeframe. I'll post the days when I get confirmation. I think I've jumped through all the required hoops, and I have my new passport stuff in process.

Seriously, if anyone is interested in accompanying me, I'll pop for the plane and hotel. I'd appreciate the company, and I figure I'm going to be hurting enough on the way back that I'd rather not have to deal with the luggage. That's non-trivial surgery.

I'm working through a co-ordinator here in San Diego (although the plane will leave out of LAX) so I'd need info here so he can make the appropriate reservations. It is 3 week, though, so you would have a nice chance to visit lots of -shall we say- inexpensive toys to bring back to listen to.

Damn you stephie.

Why couldn't you have made this decision 20 years ago when I was single, had a valid passport and was without animals. (at this point I consider my soon to be 6 and currently 8 year old boys as animals and treat them as such) The converse to this is me cursing myself for not having kids at 20 so by now I would be empty nesting and free to travel.

  :!: I wish I *had* made this decision 20 years ago! Who knows? By now I might have had a whole series of beautiful amps out on the market with this wunnerful iron in them.

3 weeks *is* a long time, but for someone with the available time, it does give a chance for some serious parts and "other stuff" scrounging!

In my previous job, we used some Thailand contract assembly, so some of the folk from manufacturing, quality, and purchasing would make periodic visits. They reported *very* inexpensive software of essentially any major product you can imagine; not that they would ever use such things. They just, of course noted it as being interesting, intellectually.

Hi Stephie,

I currently host a mirror of your tube pages (http://greygum.net/sbench/sbench101/). Judging by the amount of hits they get, they are still very popular.

Let me know when you want to do something with them and I can give you access to them or I can host whatever else you want to put up - I'm a better sys admin than EE.

PM me if you like.

Hi Stephie,

Check this elegant build of your RAT tube-tester that my friend Lars built after finding the "greygum" site:

http://www.hififorum.nu/forum/topic.asp ... hichpage=2

So the site is still inspiring lots of people.

Don´t mind the language, you´ll probably understand zilch  .

Fabulous!
I would love to see a picture of Stephie's own RAT tube tester, sadly, there isn't one on the site

Beautiful. Really a first class job.
I would love to see a picture of Stephie's own RAT tube tester,
My own implementation pales by comparison to that beautiful job above. I'll take a picture of it one of these days and post it.

Actually, I have been thinking I need to update that tester. What I wanted to do, in addition to the manual testing that's currently in the "RAT tester", is to add a little of the cheap computing power now available. Thus I was thinking about adding the following features.

1. A display that would allow a mode to display the tube curves. You would input the ranges you want sorta like a curve tracer.
2. One setting to plot gain (gm or MU) vs either voltage or current.
3. Look up for the common tubes so you could quickly set up parameters to set in for a particular tube type.

Didn't want to make it super exotic, but thought that would be kind of cute.

Maybe when I get back from Thailand.....
