mic Transformers

Post by mkane »

I just want to give a shout out to Dave for the fine transformers he wound for my Shelter 501. I love. The best bass ever in my system ever and very smooth. No roll off, no suck out. Very nice. Shielding had me running scared but RF is no issue at all. Quiet as the HM7.

Hey,

First... if they are quiet then enjoy! Two minor things in the event they do pick up some 60hz noise.

1. The mumtal cans as you are using them only provide shielding on three sides so position may have a big effect on any pickup.

2. you appear to have put them in a die cast aluminum box. This will act as a faraday cage for RFI (if grounded) but will not do much for the EMI that typically plagues SUT's

My suggestion is to place the two openings of the mumetal cans together to enclose both transformers and then place in a copper lined steel box.

as I said at the opening... if they are quiet.... ENJOY! I just want to be clear that every listening environment is different so your implementation may not work everywhere.
