OPT for Headphone Amplifier

Post by TonyB »

Hey Dave,

Did you ever make some OPTs to drive headphones? The problem I see is the range of the headphone impedances: 32 - 600 Ohms.

Yes, that's a big problem. You'd need a lot of taps... but, since secondary DCR has a negative impact on transformer performance, and because the output impedance range required is so large, I would think that it would be hard to make a transformer with a low DCR secondary for headphones. I know people do it... but from my perspective it's difficult to do it in a way that is low distortion and outstanding performance. I though Sowter makes some, as well as others like Electraprint.
