OT for 801A driving 340Hz horns

Post by mseddon »

Hi Dave, I am looking to buy or try winding a pair of Nickel OT for 801A driving 8ohm TD2001s on 340Hz horns. 30mA for about 1W, 380v B+ self bias. I have got the amp up and running using some small Akai RtoR OTs, and it sounds worth it.

Is a 1/2" core going to be big enough? ( 80% Nickel lams from way back) Does it need current cancellation or can it be gapped sufficiently to avoid saturation? I have a 12dB HP cross over at 500Hz but I still need 10 - 20H of inductance for a 10K load - going by Table 2 in RDHB4 - ie for min phase shift. I guess thats not possible from previous winds I have done, unless I get a lot more turns on. What do you think is the lowest inductance could sensibly live with?

Would be great to get a quote for fully wound and tested units, or just some advice - I have done parafeed before, but never gapped for DC.

Thanks and best rgds, martin
