hey attached the curves with an 11K loadline and you can see how things change. There are a few important points about this situation that need to be taken into consideration before an actual number is chosen. First.... how much current you run has a profound impact on the Rp to load ratio. I have a...

Hey, specs of the triode EL11? sounds like you will be in a good place.... I don't care much what anyone says a 7K load on a tube with a 3KrA is a bit low but I am happy to do whatever you want. As for the core material.... I am a nickel junkie so 49% would be my suggestion. the details of getting t...

Hey, Specifics: 3kohm Ri for the EL33 in triode mode 22mA primary current 32 ohm headphones only Currently using 5.5K : 32 OPTs The first thing that strikes me is assuming a true 32Ω headphone load you have less than a 2:1 load ratio on your output tube. Since you phones are indeed 32Ω this strike...

I think the easiest thing to do is to delete your account and then you can sign up again.

we should continue this by email and I will delete our discussion here.

I redid the sketch... please check to make sure it is correct. If your source is true to the balanced standard and can drive 600Ω a 600:600 will likely be a big improvement over the 15K:15K. This is assuming you are in the range of 12dB or more of attenuation which will take the source Z driving th...

I have had people who were well aware of the range they need specify a smaller (21dB) range of 1.5dB steps and things are great until a new component comes into their system and changes the gain structure by 10dB. as they are now many find the first click at -42dB to be too loud for background or la...

Hey, first minor correction... you mentioned that the autoformer following the 15K:15K bridging transformer would see a 15K source and this is not correct. It would be driven by the source impedance plus the winding DCR's in parallel with the 15K load resistor. As to the chicken or the egg situation...

The overhang change will happen and this happens whether you are aligning your zenith electrically or visually. This is why I use armpods for my tonearms since it allows for the focus of the tracing arc to be changed independently from the zenith. At this point I am not convinced that the overhang i...

knowns and unknowns. These days there seems to be two warring factions around analog setup. You have those that measure and those that listen and each faction thinks their way is the best. Within the measurement clan there appears to be an emerging divide between those who use the electrical and tho...

Lets look at this whole Zenith thing a bit more closely and assume a 12" Schick arm with a Löfgren alignment. Here are the numbers from the Conrad Hoffman Arc Template generator and the plots zenith angle and distortion from John Ellison's excel spreadsheet. The key thing to look at is the box...

some of the back story.... I became a dealer for Analog Magik because I wanted to find a repeatable method to set SRA for cartridge comparisons. Over the past few years in building cartridge prototypes, I have realized that setup often dominates the sound. If trying to compare two different suspensi...

you need to increase the primary inductance of the following transformer to account for the increasing LCR impedance. a 1200Ω LCR requires a following transformer with double the inductance for the same low end behavior. A 2200Ω LCR will require just under 4X the inductance. Keeping the inductance...

Electrical Zenith Setup

I use Analog Magik to setup my zenith electrically and here is my simple procedure for initial cartridge setup. First you must understand that it is 99% likely that your diamond is not set precisely 90° to your cantilever so protractors are useless. The idea is that the amount of intermodulation di...

Zenith

I have been setting cantilevers with pre-mouted diamonds for around 7 years now and the most difficult thing I found is visually confirming azimuth on the more exotic profiles. The front view makes it somewhat clear but from the top down they always seemed to look crooked. I ultimately attributed th...
