Hi Dave, Happy New Year to all. You (as usual) got it spot on ... that the tweets are likely reflecting a weird load into the amp. I had some Townsends on hand before this year's Audiofest. Yes, there was an audible change, but overall I wasn't all that happy with the sonic results - neither when us...

Re: Remote Inductive volume controls

Any of you guys going to be there? Of course we'll be in Suite 1130 as usual - our home away from home for 4 days of the year. We're planning on a Saturday night get-together / play session in 1130. It's a larger room (19 x 26) and conducive to swallowing up more bodies than the average exhibit roo...

Last night's session at SLK's was very instructive. Steve's system has taken some major leaps, and of course Johnny's and his amps take a lot of the credit. Having said that, the Karnas really show promise, and I can only imagine where they will end up after some serious iron has been dedicated to t...

Hi Dave, One thing I lost sight of was that most folks with MM phono stages are looking at 36-40dB of gain, rather than the 50dB of the Artemis. I'll bet that there are more people in this thread however with a gain structure that doesn't need the extra 8dB. Of course, I'm not trying to burn you out...

Another thing as been bugging me, but I'm so bloody swamped that I haven't participated in your (John and Steve's) experimentation. Your gain structure is "unconventional" to say the least. As far s a more universal product is concerned, a 1:26 step-up is a huge amount of gain. You boys (J...

Your biggest bang for the buck in a kit lies with Kevin Carter's Lundahl kit.

Hi Dave, I really like your philosophy of making sure that 1st order improvements get the attention they deserve. We never run out of this level of change to address ... even with an infinite supply of espresso beans  It cannot be overstated that in building a component, if it becomes too &qu...

Hi all, Not a whole lot to contribute, other than to weigh in with another testimonial on your way-cool magnetics. 8) I only wish I had more time to play with this stuff - audio as a hobby is a rare treat for me, and building these AVC's was the biggest bang I've gotten either for my time input or m...

I'll prime this thread with John's e-mail from today, along with Dave's reply. John's comments are the quoted parts and Dave's are in embedded, plain text. Cheers, Thom Hey guys. I had a chance to compare your step-ups (1:26) to Franks (1:33). I tried several loading resistors in the 7K-10K range. T...
