How Do Mixed Laminations Work?

I am curious to know how a core with laminations made of different materials works. For instance, if the stack is part nickel and part M6 I would expect the nickel laminations to saturate well before the M6 ones do, and I cannot see how this would not cause linearity problems at that point. Can some...

Driver Stage Configuration

I am planning a 6B4G push-pull amp and would like to hear people's views on whether SE to PP or PP to PP is the better configuration for the driver stage. Does using an input transformer for phase splitting and keeping it PP all the way through have any advantage over using a SE to PP driver transfo...

Maximum Inductance Questions

What is the maximum inductance that the $200 autoformer can be set to, and how does this affect maximum input levels and linearity? 20Hy seems a very low value to drive with a tube. My very poor calculation makes it about 2.5k at 20Hz - is that anywhere near right?

If you can wait until next year, Lundahl are adding a transformer to fill the gap in their range between the LL1660 and LL1671. Apparently, it's designed for the 6BX7 so it might suit your application quite well.

Amorphous Cores

I'd be grateful if somebody could explain the perceived sonic differences between amorphous and silicon/steel cores in output/interstage transformers. Are amorphous cores unquestionably worth the higher price, or is it simply a matter of taste?
